Facial pain is, well painful. Our ENT doctors can find the cause and provide you with relief.
Facial pain is one of the most common reasons people visit our offices. Many things can cause facial pain and when it happens to you our East Hampton, and Manhattan, NY, ENT doctor, Dr. Richard Nass, will find the cause and provide you with solutions.
Your facial pain might be caused by the following:
Nasal obstruction can make it harder to breathe out of one or both nostrils. As a result, pressure builds up and can cause facial pain. Nasal obstruction can occur as a result of nose abnormalities such as a deviated septum. Nasal polyps or allergies can also cause nasal obstructions, and that can lead to recurring or constant facial pain.
Chronic sinus infections
Sinusitis usually occurs after a cold and leads to inflammation and sometimes blockages in the nasal passages. This inflammation and blockage can also cause facial pain that you might feel behind your eyes, around your cheeks, or at the bridge of your nose.
While acute sinusitis will typically go away within 10 days if you’ve had facial pain and other sinusitis symptoms for longer this could be a sign of chronic infection and you'll need to see our East Hampton and Manhattan, NY ENT specialists for diagnosis and treatment.
Recurring acute sinus infections
Instead of a chronic form of sinusitis, some facial pain is caused by recurring attacks of acute sinusitis. If you get four or more sinus infections a year, then your problem could be recurring sinusitis. Recurring sinus infections are more common if you have allergies, asthma, nasal polyps, or a deviated septum.
