Balloon Sinuplasty

What Is Balloon Sinuplasty?

Sinusitis or inflammation of the sinuses affects over 37 million Americans every year. But many people don’t get relief from conventional treatments like over-the-counter medications or sinus rinses. If you’re one of them, you may be a candidate for balloon sinuplasty. This new, minimally invasive treatment can work wonders to help clear inflammation and unblock your sinuses.

Is Balloon Sinuplasty for me?

It may be if you suffer from the following:

  • Chronic sinus or nasal problems
  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Headaches and pressure around your eyes
  • Persistent or chronic bad taste in your mouth
  • Persistent or chronic bad breath

How does Balloon Sinuplasty work?

In my office, under anesthesia, a thin catheter containing a tiny balloon is inserted into your nostril. When I reach a sinus blockage, I inflate the balloon and it opens to widen your sinus passage. The balloon is then deflated and the catheter removed. Your sinus passage is now open and can drain and function normally.

Balloon sinuplasty is an easier method than other sinus surgery because there is no cutting and no removal of soft tissue or bone. You won’t have an uncomfortable incision, and there is a lower risk of infection, bruising, swelling, and pain. And with balloon sinuplasty, there is minimal downtime.
